Ryan Long hosts Financial Literacy Workshop at Garden International School

At Melbourne Capital Group, we believe in fostering strong partnerships within our community. We see our expertise in private wealth management as a resource to share, equipping young adults with the financial skills they need to thrive. This commitment led us to create financial literacy workshops for students and young adults. Recently, our Private Wealth Manager led a workshop for Year 13 students at Garden International School. With his unique background in teaching, Ryan created a dynamic and engaging learning experience for the students.

Financial Literacy Workshop Highlights

During the workshop, Ryan covered essential topics that are crucial for students as they transition into university life. The focus was on practical skills such as:

Budgeting: Understanding how to allocate funds effectively.

Cost of Living: Gaining insights into expenses they will encounter while studying.

Navigating Banking Services: Learning how to manage bank accounts and financial services.

Ryan expressed his enthusiasm for the session, stating, “I thoroughly enjoyed putting my teacher hat back on for the morning and seeing the students actively engage in planning for their financial independence was a reminder of how important these conversations are.” His passion for teaching and finance shone through, making the workshop a valuable experience for all attendees.

Feedback from Garden International School

Jade Golding, Head of Year 13, praised Ryan's approach to the workshop. She noted, "Ryan was a warm, engaging presenter, and I know that our Year 13s got a lot out of the presentation he led on Budgeting and Finance.” The hands-on approach allowed students to apply their learning directly to their own circumstances. Jade emphasized the timeliness of the workshop, stating, “It was clear from the reactions of a number of our students that much of the information they were researching about rents/gym memberships/general cost of living etc. was new to them, so this session was very well-timed to help prepare our students for the transition to university in just a few months' time.”

The workshop also fostered valuable peer-to-peer learning. By strategically seating students together based on their chosen universities and countries, Ryan facilitated connections and collaborative research. Jade observed, “I think this was perhaps the first time that some of our students got to chat to others who were applying to the same university/country, and research together and talk through their findings and experiences.”

The positive feedback from both students and faculty underscores the importance of financial literacy education. Jade concluded, “Overall, I was very pleased with how the session was led and would love to have Ryan back in school to support our learners with more finance/budgeting sessions. Thank you again, Ryan, for the time, thought, and energy that you put into making this session meaningful, relevant, and engaging for our students.”
